Ahh, winters bring itchy scalp. Itchy scalp leads to scratching of our head now and then. It’s so common to get dandruff in winters. As the scalp dries up and leads to skin itchiness. And we end up with scrathing our head. During this time our scalp cannot able to prodcue much amount of natural oil. The temperature removes the moisture from the atmosphere and brings dryness on the scalp. Generally, it up with hair fall issues.
Generally, we just pick any random shampoo from the shop, which we have seen in ads and even in the newspaper. I have a request for those people. Don’t forget to read the ingredients list on the shampoo before getting one for yourself. Most of the shampoo available in the market contain harsh chemical for our hair. In India most shampoo contains SLS.
What is SLS?
Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a detergent found in many personal care products like soaps, shampoos and even in tubes of toothpaste. It is an inexpensive foaming agent. SLES, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), and sodium pareth sulfate are surfactants are used in many cosmetic products for their cleaning and emulsifying properties. They are harsh to the skin and even on the hair. It takes away the natural oil from our hair and skin, leaving it dry and rough.
The common cause of Itchy scalp
Itchy scalp can be caused for many reason. Mostly, itchy scalp ends up with the urge to scratch and leads to hair fall. It can only be reduced just by taking proper care of hair and following a proper hygienic lifestyle.

- seborrheic dermatitis
- lichen planus
all these can cause intense itching.
Itchy scalp treatment with basic home remedies
So lets me share with you my secret hair oil and other tips to control hair fall.
Coconut oil with vitamin E
Nowadays, it’s a common story or saying, that I don’t like to apply hair oil. So, we end up with dry scalp and lots of flaky skin, dandruff. When the flaky skin when mixes with the sweat, leads to itching and infections. Coconut oil provides good moisture to the skin. It helps to lock the moistures resulting in a decrease of itchiness and dry scalp. It helps to sooth the skin.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant which helps to rejuvenate hair. It contains a group of compounds that include tocopherols and tocotrienols.
The best time to apply this recipe is at night. As no one is going to check your hairstyle.
Ingredients for Coconut oil with Vitamin E
- 5 tbsp of coconut oil
- 2-3 drops of rosemary oil
- 2 capsules of vitamin E (#Evion 400/600)
- 1 tbsp of castor oil
Take a bowl and add all the oils (coconut, castor) as listed above. Microwave it or heat it for 3 minutes. Do apply the hair oil for at least 2 hours or more than that for a better result. It’s better to keep hair oil for the whole night and the next morning wash it. Always prefer an SLS free shampoo for shampooing your hair.
Aloe vera juice with mustard oil
Aloe vera is a wonder plant. It has plenty of hair health benefits. As, It contains plenty of vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids, and fatty acids. It really works best with seborrheic dermatics, means itchy scalp. Most of all it reduces rashes and infection. So it soothes the burning sensation of the scalp. Finally, its one of the best remedies to reduce hair fall and gives hair growth.
Ingredients for Aloe vera juice with mustard oil
- One cup aloe vera juice
- 2 drops of essential oil
- 5 tbsp of mustard oil
Take aloevera, essential and mustard oil and blend them. Make a smooth paste of it. Apply it on washed hair, or wet hair for at least 30 minutes. Always rinse your hair with an SLS free eshampoo. To get better results, apply it twice a week. Also, this is one of my favorite hair masks as I personally recommend to everyone.
Onion juice with drops of neem oil
Onion juice contains the goodness of sulfur. As onion helps in improving the level of antioxidant. resulting ,in hair growth of hair follicel and regenration of new hair. It also, have antibacterial properties which keep the scalp free from infection.
Ingredients for Onion juice with drops of neem oil
- 2 onions (peel the onion and blend it remove the juice)
- 4 drops of neem oil
If you dont have neem oil is not available, use leaves of neem. Take a few leaves and boil them to remove the extract. To it add 2 tbsp of neem extracts to the onion juice. The fresh onion juice helps to treat dandruff. Apply to all over your hair from roots to tips. Leave it for at least 30 minutes. Finally, wash it off with lukewarm water. If the strong smell stays, wash hair with a mild shampoo.
Castor oil with lemon drops
Castor oil is also called as arandi ka thel in India. It contains the goodness of anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, moisturizing properties. Nowadays no one wants to apply castor oil as its quite thick and sticky. But trust me guys it really helps to reduce itchy scalp. It does help to reduce flaky skin.
Lemon has antiseptic properties. It banishes unwanted dandruff causing bacteria and fungus. people do prefer to apply lemon directly on hair. But I don’t recommend it because lemon contains a high amount of acid in it. and the skin of the head is too thin to take it. It’s better to apply it with a oil so that it can spread equally to the whole scalp. And does the work with a mild acidic reaction.
First of all, it has an anti-inflammatory property which helps in treating irritated skin. Castor oil contains triglycerides, which maintains moisture in the skin. As a result, the scalp stays hydrated and does not get dry.
Ingredients for Castor oil with lemon drops
- 4-5 tbsp of castor oil
- few drops of lemon juice
Take a clean bowl with the listed ingredients. Warm the oil in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. Apply the oil on the tips of your hair. Before applying the hair oil make sure to clean your scalp. If you have frizzy and dry ends then apply castor oil towards the ends also. It will moisturize your hair. The oil is quite thick, so do keep it applied for at least 3-5 hours and then wash it off.
